Sky disaster

I am a new and very unhappy Sky customer. I decided to join Sky mid-November following the Black Friday ads (new TV etc, lots of box sets for Xmas etc).

Paid over the phone, was given a date for installation on 27 November. The engineer turned up but explained he would need a Special Access Team and that it was too windy that day. Fair enough. He said he would be back last Saturday. Stayed in all day Saturday, the kids going mad. Eventually got through to the sky number to be told that the engineer was a no show, as if I was not already aware of that!

We were then told the SAT would arrive yesterday. He did, but again without the SAT. We are now being told that installation might happen “sometime after 20 December” when they would conduct a “survey”, with installation taking place within a month thereafter. This means no TV for Christmas. Needless to say - I am not popular at home with this news.

I really feel that they are inventing this Special Access Team issue to excuse their omnishambles of a installation service. You would swear that I live on the top of the pigeon houses of something, or at the highest room in the highest tower of a castle surrounded by a molten lava moat. I live in a normal terraced house with two storeys.

I have now decided to cancel, but that seems to involve a process more complicated than Brexit. I have spent most of the evening waiting to get through on the phone to no avail.

Has anyone else had this experience? It is so weird besides being really irritating. I am in a strange limbo where I can’t get the service but I can’t cancel it either.

AND WHERE IS MY NEW FECKING TV????!!!!

There is a dedicated sky forum here where the reps avoid giving straight answers. You should post this there

Sky don't use engineers for installations. They use installers. In your case idiots.
Enjoy Christmas without TV. Try talking to each other as was the case when I was a kid.

What a cold hearted and worthless contribution considering the OP has kids at home. :(

I suppose we should be grateful that the OP didnt say he was getting satellite installed

Very easy to install a dish yourself. Doesn't need to be at height like an aerial does, anywhere with a view of the right piece of sky will do.

All of the usual UK channels are free to air on satellite, you don't need a Sky subscription to view them. You can get a Freesat box on Amazon or eBay. Then you just need an aerial for the Irish channels, if you're in a strong signal area an indoor one might do.

Alternatively if you have good broadband, Aldi are doing a NowTV stick for €20 including two months Sky Movies.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
