Asking a Tinder guy what he wants

I’m talking to a guy I met on Tinder, we hit it off and are now messaging and getting on great. I’m just not fully sure what he’s looking for and I would really like to know upfront so I know where I stand, but is it a bit over the top to ask someone what exactly they’re after, or is that an acceptable question?

It started off really well with lots of conversation and he hinted at a date and called me beautiful, but recently he’s been sending quite short messages which are difficult to even reply to, which is why I’m wondering what his intentions are... if there are any at this stage.

Just go on a date and find out more. Is it that difficult to just ask him out? Very easy to run out of conversation quickly when messaging in my opinion. I tend to ask people out more or less straight away.
