Changing from commercial to private on logbook

Car in question is a 1987 Defender, so tax is €56 regardless and insurance will remain classic. Reason behind the change is any time I loan the car out to someone the persons own private "driving other cars" won't cover it as it's still classed as a commercial vehicle. The thing is barely driven and absolutely never used for commercial purpose.

Is this as simple as filling out a change of particulars form and sending it off? I can't seem to find the process for this anywhere online.

I know it's common to go about reclassifying a private vehicle as commercial for obvious purposes but naturally there's never much of a reason to swap a car the other way!

I'd appreciate if anybody with any experience could help out!

    Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. I had seen that already but I'm trying to go about it the other way, Commercial > Private. N1 > M1.

You may need to fill out a conversation declaration depending what code is on the J1 of the VLC and what work is done to the vehicle.

Conversions are usually M1>N1, however N1>M1 is possible, but there is no guarantee Revenue will accept such a conversion, if they do you may be liable for a VRT payment.

Hi GM, thanks for the info. It's a bog standard hardtop 110 defender, no mods. Will check VLC later. In regards to VRT, would it make any difference if it's over 30 years?

The J1 is blank, would this have any implications or befetit reclassification of the vehicle?

Just get open driving probably add almost nothing to the cost and then anyone can drive it over 25.
