How on earth is it possible to get a new home with no eircode connected?

I am trying to get a new home connected that hasn't been assigned an eircode yet. I have been told that an "Ard Key" (sp?) needs to be generated for this, and I should get a notification that one has been assigned, but literally nothing has happened for 6 weeks at this stage.

There is clearly a hold up, I assume there is some piece of information missing before the "Ard Key" can be generated, but I am incapable of getting in contact with anyone who can tell me what is actually needed (GPS coordinates? An Ordindance Survey map? Planning permission details?).

The sales team seem incapable of give me an answer, they just fob me off every time I call ("you'll get a text and email within 3-5 working days", "I'll investigate myself and give you a call back on Monday", "You will receive a call back in half an hour") or simply put me on hold for 20 minutes hoping that I'll eventually hang up.

I've tried contacting through the chat support on the web page, through contacting on twitter, I'm seriously at my wits end here. I'm trying to become a customer!

Openeir have now become strict about new addresses being added to their databases and now require an eircode for the address
If you don't have an eircode then you are a bit screwed until you get one.

    Hi de_Selby,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having to connect. Unfortunately, in order to become a FTTH customer, we require the eircode to be able to provide such a service. However, if you have a line at your house already you should be eligible to get standard fibre broadband. For more information click here and you can speak with a member of our tech support team about this.
