Sorry if this post is a little bit of of place but I didn't know where else to post.

I need a medical cert for my licence renewal but it's very hard to find a GP to take me on where I live. Other than a gp, is there anyone else who could do it?

It must be signed by a Medical Practitioner whose name is registered with the Irish Medical Council..

Ok but can you give me an example of who would qualify?

Your consultant that looks after your medical condition but it is probably easier to just book in with any GP to get them to fill out the form.

Do you attend a consultant for whatever condition you have?

The OP may not have any condition and may require the medical cert for renewal of a truck/bus licence.

No, not for some time. I think I'll try walking in and see if they can do it with no appointment because I need it ASAP.

Is the country really so fecked that you cannot walk into a gp when needed?

Yes it is. Its certainly become much harder to get in to see them in the past 10 or so years as far as I can see...

Appointments can run as far as a week away these days except for emergencies, which can often be seen on the basis of being 'squeezed in' on the day. However, they will generally only deal with a single issue (the one creating the emergency), so if you've chest pain they'll see you, but won't check out your prostate at the same time... They'll leave that joyous task until the next time you make an appointment for the full NCT....

The more free GP medical cards they give out, the more 'fecked' the system becomes.

The downside of expanding free access to GPs is that it lengthens the waiting time to see a GP because when you reduce the price of a service or make it free, demand increases. It's why a lot of practices are refusing to take on new patients. It's either that or GPs have to work until 7 or 8 p.m.

No eyesight check? My gp done that in my last renewal. €50 does appear to the standard fee for it.

The eyesight check with my GP was read the chart he's had on the wall for years. He just asked me to read the lowest row I could see. If you are a regular you'd known it off by heart.
