400 is on the low side of normal- I paid 600 for a 3 bed in Galway recently.

It is a day long job by a specialist electrician. ...it was done here; every socket, plug etc taken apart, replaced at need, really impressive and very reassuring

NB this was what we were told by ESB and others. An ordinary sparks was refused. This came up in other threads

There is no way it should take a day.

Replacing sockets etc will be extra.

No specialist electrician is needed just an electrician to do the job with the right testing equipment.

And taking plugs apart is not part of the job.

Plugs on appliances no not at all.

€400 would sound about right. Could try emailing or ringing a good few to see.

All they are doing is testing mcb and rcd or rcbo are working correctly and any breaks in circuits or dangerous connections etc.

ESB said otherwise. And yes a whole day. With a specialist electrician. This came up on another thread and was the experience of others there also.

A qualified electrician is a qualified electrician.

They must have papers and then sign off the unit is passed.

If it takes a whole day then that's with issues.

If the property was ok and still is this should show very quickly.

There isn't honestly that much to it.

I've done this work myself years ago so I know all about it.

A qualified electrician is not necessarily a RECI electrician. Only RECI certs accepted.

Someone is either qualified to the job or they are not.

You need to be a Qualified Certifier and registered with RECI to provide test records and completion certs.

The QC course is a follow on from an electrical apprenticeship, not every electrician has a QC.

If you want the power reconnected in a home you need a qualified electrician to certify it.

The electrician is either qualified or is not qualified to do it.

It is not a job for a specialist electrician, it is a job for an electrician.

And no qualified electrician is going take all the plugs apart.

    He still needs a QC.....

It's a job for an electrician who has a QC number and works for or is a registered electrical contractor. I'm a qualified electrician, I could do the job no problem but I can't certify it as I don't have a QC number.

You're not qualified to do the job.

I'm a qualified electrician which is all you said, incorrectly, was required to do the job.

I did the same in dublin almost the year to the day

I paid €200 + VAT, 2.5 years ago to get a house checked in Dublin 15 for ESBN re-connection. Looks like prices have gone up since then, the amount of work and paper work is still the same.
