    Hi All

I still haven't made it to Florence but determined to go next September for 7 days can anyone recommend a nice apartment, just myself and wife travelling. We also would like to do some day trips possibly to the coast and surrounding areas what would be a good itineary we would consider hiring a car.

    Any help appreciated

    Hi

I can recommend Grand Hotel Baglioni

The view at breakfast is fantastic

Plenty to do around the town and the views from up the hill over the town (can't think what it was called now - but very very nice)

After Florence, we got the train to Pisa

    Hope this helps

Lucky you. We love this part of Italy. With regard to day trips think about going to Lucca. Pisa of course is worth a visit. For a seaside location maybe Viareggio. Very good train network in the Tuscany region if you choose not to rent a car. Other trips to consider are to San Gimiangno and Siena. Montecatini Terme is a lovely town and if you manage to fit that into your schedule take the funicular from there to a hilltop village called Montecatini Alto. Happy travels.

If you're based in Florence, I would set aside no more than a morning or afternoon for a quick train trip to Pisa because apart from a visit to the Leaning Tower, there's not much else to do there. It's a university town so there's a good buzz about the place during term time but as a tourist, there's not much to occupy you there.

This was because we we flying back from Pisa

So about 11am from memory, then walked to the leaning tower

    Then bus to the airport

Flight was about 5pm from memory and that was in October and we had plenty of time

Yes, we might fly in to Pisa as there seem to be more flights and cheaper than direct to Florence though of course I'll hae to factor in the train/bus costs..
