You need to file a tax return.

If you got the surgery this year, you'll have to wait til early next year to file your tax return (after you receive your P60).

If you are an employee then you have to register for an account on the Revenue website under the heading MyAccount. When your all set up there then it is very straightforward to claim back medical expenses by completing a form 12

    Hi All,

I did my laser eye surgery and was told by Optilase that I can claim some amount back using the MED 1 form and it would be better to do this before Christmas.
    However, on the revenue website:
    ************************************

    Note

The Med 1 is no longer available. Health expenses are claimed through your tax return form
    ************************************

    Please help.

    regards,

As the others have pointed out it's all online now. If you can manage to post here, then you can follow the instructions to claim online. If the expenses were incurred this year, you'll have to wait untill next year to claim relief on the tax you paid this year.

Yes meant to say you’ll have to wait till January to claim(and you can go back 4 years) but if you register now you can still claim for 2014. Look for a P21 balancing statement for each year back to 2014 too to see if you’re entitled to any other refunds ( warning: you may also owe them money).
Then in January you can claim for 2018.
