    Yay! Fair play!

Here's hoping it leads to the proliferation of more adventurous architecture in Galway
Galway’s Palás cinema was one of the big winners at the World Architecture Awards this weekend.

The arthouse cinema designed by architect Tom dePaor won Best Use of Colour at the architecture awards in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Ah stop.... please don’t encourage anymore of this depressingly communist era architecture. It’s hideous (IMO)

It won for it's use of stained glass windows to bring colour to the interior.
Is this visible from the outside at night.
Would look nice if it did.
It's a rather drab building otherwise.

I've used it loads since it's opened and I'm glad it exists, but anyone who says it's anything except ugly and poorly laid out is talking complete nonsense.

"Best use of colour"? It's fecking grey!

    Very surprised by that.

It's a shambles inside and outside.

Read the article in the Galway Advertiser about this award, what a load of nonsense - its an award given by other architects/designers, in other words industry buddies extolling the 'beauty' of the building...oh please--vomit

If anything it's actually detracted from the city. It's like some old factory you'd expect there to be a petition to knock down and rebuild as something attractive. It's never going to be in a tourism brochure, or gain any traction on social media from tourists or locals, no ones going to boast about being there, no ones ever going to actively really want to visit it.
If it was even a proper much hated, standout talking piece, but its not even that. I just don't understand how it can tick any boxes as successful architecture.

Galway Cathedral wins that award in Galway City, especially if the judges are observing at mass times. :D
