    Hi,

it took 4 orders to have my broadband setup but:
    • According to Eir (last call I had), the maximum speed of my broadband should be 2 Mbs.
    • According to the technician that installed the landline, I should get a very fast broadband because I'm living very close (800m more or less) to an exchange.
    • According to www.openeir.ie I live very close to the exchange and I can get up to 24Mbs
    • As soon as the modem arrived I run some test and my current speed is 6-7 Mbs (tested on Eir website and on speedtest
    [*]

What can I really get where I live? Given the confusion of the order (3 orders had to be canceled because the sales did mistakes in the sale) I start thinking that I'm not getting the best speed.

If it's a brand new line installed then it takes a few days for the line to "settle in" then support staff can do a proper line test and see what it is capable of
The upload speed is what determines the download speed - so it may be capable of 24 down but if the upload is not compatible then the download speed has to be stepped down.

    THanks or the answer.
the line was installed the 16th of november. By the way I'm living very close to the exchange, according to the Open Eir I'm in the Fiber network "Live" area (the green zone.... ), very lucky considering it's an almost rural area, also the technician when installin the landline told me it was a very good area.....what should I do to get a better line?

Call eir and ask them to test the line speed and change your profile if it can handle it.
Takes a few mins to do.

Done, took 30 minutes waiting and then 2 minutes.
They said I have 2 Mbs (when called them on the phone), then they said on the shop where I bought the broadband I may get 8Mbs (what I'm getting). This does not make sense with all the other info I see on Open Eir regarding fiber rollout.

I also asked a friend who's living just in front of the exchange to try to order the fiber putting his address and phone line, according to Eir website (when he checked last weel) there's not fiber there?? How is it possible?

Is it possible to run once and for all a test to check my line?

Who did you call? Customer care? Shouldn't have bothered, need to talk to someone who knows what they are doing and not just running a prequal on your line
They need to a test on the line from UG (wholesalers system) and see what profiles are available for your line. At your distance it should be 8mb and if the exchange is ADSL2 then around 22mb.
