So another English language school closes with no notice. What's the story with these places, why are they suddenly shutting? Surely they either make money or don't which can be planned either way?

There is effectively no regulation of these schools

Rent might have gone up (doesn't really happen in State schools)
Legal case against the school maybe (presume the state would foot the bill for that in state schools, or else they would have good insurance policies)
Owners might have failing business interests elsewhere (most principals don't have their fingers in too many other pies ... 'most' :pac:)
    Changing market/visas
Failed to get accreditation from CELTA or wherever.

Don't really know. But I taught in one of those schools during the summer (adults and kids) and it's a tough gig with really dedicated teachers. Alot of the teaching methods I witnessed about 15 years ago were adopted into secondary!!!
