Revenue list my job as 'Ceased'. I'm still working/getting paid!

Hi all. Anyone ever have this problem before?

I came off long term sick recently and logged in to check to see if my credits are in order and that I'm put back on cumulative taxation as opposed to week 1 - I then see that my current employment has been marked as 'ceased' since last August! First I've heard of it and same with my employer.

I'm still getting paid, getting pay slips, getting taxed appropriately - what on Earth is going on? I'm planning on calling to the local office tomorrow to sort this out but is this common? Will it be an easy fix?

I'm bringing my work ID and last week's payslip with me. Is there anything else I need?

    Thanks

How long is long? A lot of employments which were never ceased going back years were auto ceased in a cleanup exercise over the past year or so because no p35 or no p45 information had shown up for years. Also quite a few offices no longer have drop in counters but instead operate an appointment service. Check the website for details of your office. A phone call should sort it quickly.

Thanks for replying. I’m in the public service. Was out for about a year and all illness benefit was paid to my employer. I got a new tax certificate in March and again in September but no correspondence about this change.

Hopefully a call will fix it. I’m dreading having to go chase my employer for documents to prove my employment as getting paper from them is often a long process.

As a side note - Is being put back on cumulative an option? Or will it automatically happen for the 2019 tax year.

Bit late in the year for cumulative to take effect. It will be automatically applied for 2019.

Definitely time for a call. Can't imagine why your employment is ceased since August. However there's a lot of changes ongoing for PAYE Modernisation which starts in January which may account for it. Only way to know for sure is call. Alternatively if you can't hang on for however long the call queue is, then send a query through the my enquiry function of your online Revenue account.

We had to submit an employee list to revenue for PAYE Modernisation and they ceased a load of our employees on the active list so possibly a mess up from revenue. A call fixed it but they couldn't tell why it happened. Although August is early to be related to that, deadline for submission was end October unless they submitted early. Give them a call and see, should be easy to fix.
