Changing name post-separation but before divorce

    Hi,

Luckily I kept my own surname for most things but I did change it on my passport and bank account (with a view to changing it everywhere except work but never got round to it).

Can I change back to my maiden name with a deed of separation or to I have to wait for the divorce decree?

    Thanks

You don't need anything. You just use your name.

When you apply for a new passport u just have to be able to demonstrate that you've used your own name for 2 years. Bills, drivers licence, work contract etc.

Thanks. Bills are in married name but have drivers licence and work contract in maiden name. Can probably get bills changed back to maiden name too.

Yes, get as many things as you can put in your own name. Then once you are using it 2 years then that can be basically your name.

People really should not change their name over marriage. Marriages end and break up all the time and when that happens there is enough headaches going around besides having to deal with reversing a name change.
