Glanbia co-op shares

    Anyone buying/selling?

Glanbia have written to non-supplier members who hold ordinary shares in the co-op asking if they want to sell.

Their offer is €5 but spoke to an estate agent this morning who said he had a client willing to pay €6.50.

There was also an ad in the Journal last week with someone looking for €15 per share.

Anyone on here have any thoughts?

Do not under any circumstances sell them at 5 euro per share. You don't have to sell

What are they worth to sell?
Is there much of a demand for them?

More than the 5 euro they are offering, which you wouldn't get until after Christmas. If there's another spin out you'd benefit by keeping them

I’m tempted by the €6.50 but the €5 from Glanbia themselves seems a bit cheeky.

Tis hard to put a true value on them

Definitely min €15, you must have got good spinouts already, I was bid € 8 lately but another spinout would give more than that and hav shares left.
    Do people think we're stupid

The letter to the people to sell was worded very badly. It's more or less saying you have to sell, you don't. Offering 5 euro is a bad stroke imo

A good few who got that letter would be on in years now. From speaking to some of them they are of the opinion they have to sell. I told them not to sell

    Thanks a million folks.

I didn’t really understand the process or background, and a few grand for signing your name seemed easy money.

Tis poor form from Glanbia to leave such a gap in knowledge. I rang their share office along the way too but was none the wiser after speaking to someone.

Don't depend on the chancers on here either, be as well to talk to your own accountant.
They're usually well up with investments/shares, I'm sure they've had farmers in about it

The value of the Coop share depends on the value of the plc share
The last spin out made each Coop share worth closer to 30 Euros

Selling for a fiver,8.50 or 15 Euros each would be STUPID

Buying for a fiver on the other hand would be a bargain but you're doing it on the backs of people who will have sold at a fiver either not knowing the facts or under duress because they needed the money

The letter and decision to do the exchange is to have shares available for new entrants and for to get suppliers under 2000 shares up to that level

Optically this was a silly year to look to do that because so many farmers are under pressure and might sell

Why would anybody pay more than E5.00 for them tho, if they can buy them for a fiver a share?

    Will it be oversubscribed?
Is there that much demand for them?

They can only sell what's offered
    That's why it's called a share exchange

Afaik, outside of the exchange, sales between parties are rare as hens teeth
They normally only happen between siblings
This will be over subscribed, of course it will
The last exchange must have been a decade or more ago
So to answer your question, the amount sold or bought will be tiny (no matter how much it's pushed) meaning it'll have no impact on the desire to buy outside of this exchange at all
It's just that the sales don't turn up

    Correct, nobody has to sell.
As a farming, coop member I’d be hoping that people would sell in order to allow the shares get into the hands of trading farmers.

The coop whom many like to run down is actually a victim of its own success. I’d hate to see a situation where anyone other than an A1 shareholder has a say in the future or our business.

I fully accept the shares are personal property and each individual has the right to sell or not.

As a coop member you should encourage their sale into the hands of younger coop participants. The danger with treating them as investments is we will lose control eventually to non participants. Have a look at the Kerry thread.

Information meetings held in several venues every year explaining every detail of their value etc

    .

I'd hate that too but Remember the board of the Coop a few years ago actively promoted taking away the need to have 75% of A1 voters (who are mostly milk suppliers)support for measures and put the decision in the hands of the majority of the whole shareholding

Its inevitable that farmers will want to hold on to their spin out creating holding as a retirement investment
Perhaps the way out of this would be to vote to give ownership of the new Coop to active suppliers only and require them to sell on retirement
You'd need an SGM to vote on that
We could buy out the 40% of the Coop the plc own aswell whilst giving voters a decent spin out again as usual to encourage them along in the vote

Just checked last night for every 1 co op share that was exchanged I got roughly E55.00 worth of plc shares
Why would u sell for a fiver?

While id agree with active shareholders or active farmers having their say in co op I cant see too mang giving them that a a fiver a share

Just leave them there claim ur spinouts when they happen and there still worth
    A fiver

    I

Also is there also an advantage to farmers having a set amount of shares to get bonuses or rebates on feed/fert
So they are also making money back on shares annually

The value of the plc shares have rose after every spin out but have been static for a while
Over my farming lifetime the share value has multiplied by about a factor of 15 since the first spin out with the avonmore Waterford merger
That original one was worth a lot in today's money for those that held onto them and most did
The value per current share if there was a spin out today ALL of which went to you would in my reckoning be close to 30 Euros
Remember not all the shares you hold cancelled on a spin out go to you
An awful lot go to the Coop in a spin out to them of YOUR shares, direct transfer
You vote for that to happen
The coop then use what was formerly yours as they see fit, millions of euro
Some,a small percentage makes it's way back to milk suppliers via the cooky jar

Any idea when the allocation of shares will be known?

Got mine today. Allocated what I looked for which I am surprised at. Got enough to get over the 2000 which seems to be the magic number for rebates etc.
