Relocation of public drain on private property

    Hi all,

I am looking for some advise or direction and any feedback would be greatly apprieciated.

I have a public waste pipe (end of line for 6 houses) and a main sewer running across my garden. The waste pipe is preventing me gaining planning permission,

I am just wondering do i need planning to relocate the waste pipe. I think it would be possible to run the pipe a more direct route and break into the main at another point in the garden. Thus removing the pipe from the proposed planning area and as this is a more direct route i think it could help a common blockage problem that persists in this section of pipe

If anybody from or has any dealings with irish water or the Cork local planning office could offer any advise it would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    Greg

You need permission from the drainage department as they will have a wayleave in place for the pipe. I’ve done it with DLRCC before and it was relatively easy.

Prepare some plans of the existing and proposed and talk to the area engineer.
In this case, because of the wayleave, it blocked the construction of an extension so it was financially worthwhile moving it.

If it is Irish Waters, you will need to apply for a Diversion Agreement. Long winded process. The fact it is foul, if you move it are you not going to affect the gradients of the pipes?? Make sure that you still have falls required.

    Their website gives useful info:

    Thanks for your response kceire,
Could you give me a rough idea of what they charged for the relocation?

    Thanks for getting back rayjdav,
I will give irish water a call to find out who owns the pipe and check out that link

I had my concerns around the falls alright and will probably have to get a survey done to confirm,

Would you have any idea roughly how much irish water would charge to relocate a pipe approx 30ft? Im trying to work out if this is even worth wasting my time (and all of yours)

All Works at the applicants expense as it was on private land.

OP, did you pursue this afterwards, if so, how did you get on?

I am in a similar predicament.
