Social clubs..... Mental health past

Probably a daft question but I'll ask anyway. Recently I've been searching for social clubs to join i.e GAA/Soccer.
I'm not at all comfortable joining in anything local due to depression/anxiety past behavior really.
I recently tried to join a GAA club but was refused. Secretary just kept pointing out my local club even though I said I'm in this other town more often. She said join local one has its in your own county etc. Now the one I wanted to join IS in a different county but it's only like 20min drive from me.

Anyway I just feel like I'm trying to push myself out there & I keep getting knocked back.... could I give fake address??

GAA is parish based so you do need to either live or work in the area to be eligible to join a particular club. It sounds as if the secretary is a bit of a jobsworth so that club might not suit you anyway.
Soccer, athletics, etc usually recruit from a wider area so you are unlikely to run into the same problem but keep going until you find one that suits you.It will be worth it.

This would be a recipe for disaster, it would be like joining a GAA club in County Clare even though you are from County Limerick, what would you do on Munster Final day when Limerick are playing Clare, who would you support???? Imagine all your family, friends, neighbours from Limerick seeing you at the match in your Clare jersey, you'd be ostracised
