Taken off team after two days

I'm newish(going on three months) to the company and was recently put on a team in place of someone going on Annual leave for 8 weeks(he's back after xmas)

There was a knowledge transfer to the degree where I was shown what needs to be done(these were all new processes, systems etc I was going to be using).
There was no time when we were doing side by side work to ensure everything was in line and I was doing it correctly.

D-day came, he was gone and I was in. Everything went wrong from day one, i.e. systems not working, files not been generated, couldn’t do reports on time cos the work couldn’t be done etc.
The PM spoke to my boss and had me removed from the team after two days. I was warned by a few people before this that she is an extreme micro-manager and tolerates no BS, doesn’t even want to be CC'd on emails(she told me she didn’t want to be CC’d as did her whole team).

So that happened, I mailed my boss(in a different country) explaining that I was only getting used to the duties required and now that I've been doing the job, I know what’s needed day to day, he advised the PM is taking another route.

Now the last two weeks her team have been on Leave/sick , and she asked me to do their duties.

I did this with no issue nor questioning why I should be doing it.

What I want to know is should I approach her asking for a second chance, even though my boss said she made her mind up???

I know what happened here, she expected me to be at the other employees level(7 years’ worth of knowledge) with only one KT and everything would be as dandy as it was all along. Now she won’t look me in the eye even, but will mail me asking can I do her favours.

Sure, you could e-mail her asking if you can have a quick meeting with her regarding your tasks going forward. You could then ask her about it.

tell her you've already got a load of work on, and if she needs you to help out to discuss with your manager first to a) let your manager know what shes up to/what you are working in and b) that your manager can ok you doing it (and probably working not on what your manager assigned you to do)

the pm sounds like a head wreck. best to stay away from her & that team.

best bet is to just focus on your own work and try excel at that so your boss knows you're a good worker.

Stay away from toxic people, they wont ever change.

She sounds like a bit of a wagon. Is there a good reason that you would like to be back on this team? If it's just to win her approval I wouldn't bother. There are just some people best avoided.

    This is exactly the reason.
Its more so to save face and prove I can do the work cos it just looks bad on me what happened, plus she will obvs tell here buddies in the job and it will trickle down so I need to prove I can do a good job.

I suspect that no amount of work you now do would win her approval. She gave you 2 days !!! to get into the job before she dumped you out.

In any case the person you should focus on trying to impress is your boss, and your boss' boss. They are the ones that matter...and ultimately decide on payrises/bonus/promotions....not that PM.

PM's are just box-tickers. They simply want to be able to tick that box to say such and such a job is done. You're a tool to them towards that end.

as Daheff says, Your boss has to manage you as a person. Your promotional prospects etc are with your direct boss, not within the PMO team.

Thanks for all the reply's guys.

Looks like i'm not on my own with how I felt about the situation.

Anyhow, I'm just going to sit tight and see where the tide takes this, not mention it unless anyone else does and as yee said, impress my own manager, not go out of my way to impress any others(within reason of course)
