Spotted a decent deal in Tesco Drogheda today. E27 White Dim Kit which includes an E27 Hue White bulb and dimmer switch for €24.95. On Amazon it's £29.99.

I'm moving more towards the White and White Ambiance bulbs for rooms and then the colour bulbs for accent lighting so this is a handy kit. I needed another few dimmer switches anyway and they are around €20 from Amazon each (although I did get 3 for about €15 each 2 weeks ago on Amazon).

The Philips Hue site still has it's 3 for 2 offer going at the minute. Shipping to PM might be necessary and lot of bulbs sold out.

Sounds good. Do you use adaptors/covers for your dimming switches?

    Yes I do. These ones - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D5KJ4B6

They work very well. I take disconnect the electricity to the lights and permanently wire it live. Then put a blanking plate over the switch. The above dimmer switch holder then over the blanking plate.

Expensive per unit when you factor in Parcel Motel/Addresspal unless ordered in bulk I suppose. I thought they could be screwed in just over a regular light switch?

Is there a way you can do this where you just leave the light switch on but have the Hue dimmer placed above it? I have the less common square type switches (Schneider electric type in the Amazon link)

That's what that item does - there's no need to mess with the original switch.

Of course. Just make sure nobody touches the light switch and it’ll be fine

Anyone see deals on white ambiance GU10s? My colour ones won't fit so going back I'm afraid

Yes you can leave the old switch there but from reviews I've read, there is not enough space under the cover and sometimes the switch gets pushed in. Hence I just put the blank plate instead of the switch as I had a few in the shed.

Hey, just a bit concerned for your and other house members safety.

How do you isolate the power to the light fixture when you want to change a bulb, lampshade etc?

Just seems a dangerous thing to do to have the light fixtures permanently live.

Switch off the lights at the fuse box.....

Just to follow up. I tried to install the switch cover today and leave the current switch on the wall in the on position.

Once you add the Hue dimmer switch magnetic base on top of the new cover (which itself is screwed on top of the normal light switch) it always switches the lights off. The two magnets on the dimmer switch base push the rocker switch into the off position.

Two choices that I can see. 1) use a cover plate like I have always done and permanently wire the lights on or 2) turn the normal light switch 180 degrees so it's inverted and then mount the cover.

Edit: rotated the switch 180 degrees and seems to work

Amazon usually get them back in stock. I've seen them go out of stock before.

I agree with iPhone bit dangerous leaving it live all the time and a pain to switch all lights off if you've to do any work, I've these fish key switches and they work a treat. Only the key can activate the switch and can be gotten from a local electrical wholesaler so no postage or wait times

If your doing electrical work you should be isolating at the fuse board so the switches status is immaterial.
