Would a splitter work ?

Hi I have a cat 5 cable running from modem to an android box at the tv. Thing is I want to connect to a second box, so what do I need.
Would a splitter work. As both boxes are at the same tv only one would be on at a time.

You need a switch.
You'd get a 5 port switch cheaply enough.
