I'm surprised that this hasn't been mentioned to date.

The suggested "fix" using cable ties sounds totally amateur, and getting people sign a disclaimer when buying a brand new car is a very poor way of doing business.

A car brand using cable ties to fix a safety belt fault on a new car. That inspires confidence.

I had to sign a disclaimer in a rental car recently, Seat Ibiza, that the centre rear seat wouldn't be used for this reason.

I was taking a rental car (VW Polo) and they said I couldn't take the car without signing a disclaimer and said I would lose my rental unless I accepted it or indeed I could pay an additional 20 euros a day to upgrade to the next class.

Told them there would be 3 small children in the back seats going to the Zoo and 4 seats was no good, was arguing with the guy and when he realised I didn't have anywhere to be any time soon he eventually gave me a 530i Touring instead
as they had nothing small left (bloody chancers)

Off topic but many times I've rented a car:

"Would you like SatNav for 20 Euro a day?"
    "No thanks."
*agent pretends to type on computer*
"Oh you are lucky, the car has SatNav anyway."

The biggest crime here is the owner of a Polo asking a passenger to endure a motorway journey in the center rear seat.

If it was a 6'2" back row forward i would agree but i think an 8 year old would be grand.
