"modified scale" for existing public/civil servants

Interested in a public sector/agency role and I'm currently a civil servant. Salary scale for the public sector role starts lower than my civil servant one and is a good bit below where I currently am on the civil service scale.

Job spec says "A modified scale may apply to existing public/civil servants".

Can anyone explain to me what his means in practice?

    Thanks

Just a bit of a *bump* for this.

I think it might mean that you could transfer over to the nearest ppont you are currently on. Not 100% sure.

Have you checked with HR in the organisation in question?

That's the next step but this is still a bit speculative on my part. Just wondering if anyone had experience of transferring in on something like this and what it meant in practice.
