Home VPN server

I've set up a home VPN server on my Windows 2008r2 server. I have a decent home broadband connection (VM 240mb) but connecting in via VPN from my Android is painfully slow and unusable from my office.

I've even tried setting the VPN service up on a Windows 7 virtual machine hosted at home and had the same result.

Any ideas how to solve this ?

Connection to my home network is fine via Vnc etc.

A VPN is like saying a vehicle, is it a tricycle or an airbus?

At a guess, TCP over TCP? Or if you're using V6 its VMs CNAT boxes.
