Child benefit paid into N26 or Revolut? Anyone?

I need to change where my child benefit is paid asap as problems with current bank and it would suit me alot better to get it paid into N26 or Revolut as I have accounts with both and transactions are free.

I rang the child benefit section but they are just transferring me to different people who don't know.

I'll probably just fill the details but wondering in anyone has any success here?

As you can see on the DIR PMT1 Form "You can get your payment direct to your current, deposit, savings or standard bank account in a financial institution."

So, if your N26 or Revolut accounts meet the above criteria then you should be OK. But if they don't, then you can't.

Technically it's possible but be prepared for somebody in the dept unfamiliar with both accounts to be questioning why you are being paid into an account outside of the state. They may request statements etc.. and generally wonder what's going on. Pure conjecture...

EBS is an option , completely free but limited online banking (i.e. no app)

That's what I want to avoid. Don't need the hassle. The phone call this morning was bad enough. I have a credit union account I could use but can only transfer to Irish accounts out of it which is a total pain

If, for whatever reason you don’t want it being paid into your bank account you could always collect it in your local post office if you have a Public Services Card.

Just print out this form: http://www.welfare.ie/en/pdf/cb56.pdf
Fill in all sections & in Part 3 enter your post office details.

By doing this you’d avoid the money going anywhere near your bank account & have guaranteed access to the cash, which is what I assume the issue is.

I don't have a public services card. What I really want is to have it sent to somewhere that doesn't charge fees like n26. The credit union was grand but can only transfer to Irish financial institutions

Ask them can they transfer the money into a Sepa account.

It's actually irrelevant its a German account number. If they ask for your IBAN, give them the n26 IBAN. Makes no difference to them. It's the DE that throws them off.

If however, they only accept sort code and bank account number - then n26 and revolut are out of the question.

The credit union app allows me to make any SEPA transfer (including international)

Ok thanks, thats interesting, I had to ring credit union to set up my online account and they said they could only do transfers to another irish account, I might try and see if it works though

Just wondering if anybody managed to get it paid into a Foreign SEPA account ?

I’m thinking about doing that for years, I use my French account for everything, I keep my KBC account just for child benefit, but it’s already a pain in a but to change the IBAN with them I don’t want to take the risk to have other issues...

In general it’s call IBAN discrimination (for a company to deny a SEPA transaction) but I’m not sure for an administration, plus as a fraud analyst I can understand how fraudster would abuse the system and leave in a another country.

A friend lost his job recently, and was unable to get his job seekers, paid into their N26 Aaccount.

He said the My Welfare Online site, accepts the N26 IBAN without any errors, but apparently that data, is further fed into the actual payment system, which does not accept non Irish bank accounts.

He also said, when he signs for the payment at the PO,(he has to go there due to this issue) An Post are unable to credit his N26 card with the funds. This looks like an An Post issue, as at that stage, the payment is available either in cash, or credit any debit card, but they can’t credit N 26 at his PO.

This is going to become a huge problem, as people leave the traditional banks, and move to non Irish banking.

I would imagine based on this, that Child Benefit and all other state benefits, would be the same, eg not possible to be credited to a non Irish Bank account

That is odd. My partner is getting her Covid payment into her n26 account so it looks like its pick and choose. Which is basically crazy considering if I had to get job seekers payment in the morning into my N26 - I can't.

Thats interesting, maybe its because the Covid Payments were set up, to rapidly pay people, so maybe some of the usual protocols/ checks were bypassed, to make sure it reached people quickly or, could be because Covid payments are processed at National level, whereas JB are processed at a local level. Still strange though.

I did eventually get it set up by ringing them. It's been paid for nearly 2 years now into n26.

But thats a different department- Revenue, would be the same for LPT, as this is also also managed by Revenue, i changed both to N26 recently, both were accepted by the Revenue’s system, the issue seems to be with certain Social Welfare payments such as Job Seekers, which seem to be managed locally, whereas Child Benefit and PUP seem to be on a national system, which can handle non Irish bank accounts.
