    Hi Guys

Wondering if someone can help me with a query I have a Nissan Quasshi +2 bought from the main dealer in March 2016 and I bought it @48 000 miles and now its @ 97000 so I need to replace the clutch now which is going to cost me 600 euro but the mechanic has me worried about the DMF. He not sure about it as he need to take out the clutch before he would knows if it does need replacing. The query I have is how long does a DMF last and any straight forward signs that the DMF needs replacing. In the grand scheme of things if i don't replace it it still cost another 700 with labour and parts down the line so it be a 1000 at the min but maybe a saving of 400 euro.

I had to replace my clutch, and I decided to change both, while they are off the car you may as well I figure. Yeah it was an extra expense of a few quid, but i didn't want to get 5k down the road for the flywheel to go on me.

Honestly replace the flywheel while the gearbox is out, they wear and the springs become loose. Realistically it will struggle to last the life of another clutch so chances are it will fail before the new clutch is due replacement

Have seen DMF's fail at under 80K mls. In theory they can be checked for play when the clutch is out but I wouldn't put much faith in the test results.
Your clutch has done 97 K - so if the new one does the same mileage then you will be hoping for the DMF to last for almost 200K in total.
Some figures I have seen quoted for 'life expectancy' of a DMF would be 120K or so.
As others have said change the DMF.

We only ever sell them as a full kit
You would be mad not to replace the lot

It is incredibly rare for a clutch to be replaced without changing the DMF. I've changed several over the years on my own cars. The additional labour in replacing the DMF while the gearbox is out is minimal. I used to also change the rear crankshaft seal at the same time as they had a habit of leaking on the particular engine I was dealing with. In addition, if the clutch has been slipping there is a risk that the face of the DMF is slightly distorted from the heat and could cause a rough clutch action and premature wear of the new clutch. Make sure a full clutch kit is fitted (including the slave cylinder/release bearing).

    Regards,
    Dave

It saves you money in labour rates to do both clutch and DMF at the same time as the gearbox has to be dropped out to do either job. This is why it is common practice to do both at the same time.

I doubt you'll get a dissenting view op, you can't really wear a clutch out without having some affect on the dmf. Replace both.
