Taking a career break in the public sector

I'm an AP in a public sector agency. I'm pregnant with my third child. I'll likely take a year's maternity leave between paid leave, unpaid leave, annual leave and parental leave. But I'm also considering taking another years career break after that. Wondered if anyone has done this and the pros and cons? Money would be really tight but would be doable. We'd have no holidays for the two years but tbh we've been saving for a house and haven't gone on a big holiday in years anyway. My younger children are 3 and 4. Well settled in crèche although my eldest will be starting school soon. I took the guts of a year's maternity with both of them and I found coming back to work really hard. I don't love the job , find it tough and because of my position don't have great friends at work. Things change allot and I suppose I'm worried I'll be left behind and fighting an uphill battle when I come back. My main incentive would be spending hand on time with my children while they are young. But I'm worried about that too because they've had a great time in crèche and I want to give them all an equal chance! I have no family locally so I wouldn't have any support but I would have the ecce year for my 3 year old and school for my 4 year old which leaves some one on one time for the newbie! Anyone been in the same boat or have any views?
