Do you believe in any of these shows on tv like Most Haunted, A Haunting etc where people claim to have seen and heard ghosts in their homes, pub, etc?

The main reason I don't is they practically never (unless im wrong) present the public with evidence to back up their claim and im also a natural cynic so when it comes to people, there are a billion different reasons for them to claim these things, from publicity, mental illness, attention seeking, family grudges etc.

100% fake. If anyone actually believe that they are real, I seriously question their intelligence.

Depends how you phrase the question.

Do I believe there are people who claim to have seen things? Yes I do. Do I believe many and even most of them genuinely did see something they can not explain? Yes I do.

Do I think there is a whit of evidence that what they saw is what they then claim it to have been on such shows - that is to say actual ghosts - no I do not. The credibility needle not only does not get off Zero on that dial - it does not even twitch.

There is no evidence human consciousness or awareness can work or continue separate from the brain - let alone upon the death of the brain. Until there is such evidence - the "ghost" hypothesis is a non-starter for me.

Google the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and compare to the what people say they feel like when they see a ghost.

Never understood why ghost are afraid of light and the need to turn off lights to "see" them. Why would a spirit be afraid of light and only operate at night?

I don't believe in ghosts, and I don't think anyone would be afraid of a ghost if they had a camera crew, TV presenter, sound guy, boom operator etc. all sitting beside them in close proximity.

But the shows are successful it'd seem, so I'm assuming it satisfies the curiousity of many a people.

I'm sure there's a traveller joke in there somewhere.

I saw a documentary series exposing this. Every single ghost incident these professional ghost investigators looked at was faked.

    Every. Single One.

IIRC it was called "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!"

If, (and it's a big 'if') some deceased loved one of mine decides to get in touch with me via the medium of ...er... a medium, and the only thing they can come up with is "Tell her my name begins with a B, see how long it takes her to guess it's me!" I'll be very, very, disappointed.

What I want to hear is where they hid the proceeds from that armoured car robbery they pulled off in 2006, in detail.

It's all cobblers, though it appears some of the people who peddle it believe their own delusions. If someone is claiming to have contact with some deceased loved one, they are either deluded or an outright fraud, and almost certainly Cold Reading you.

Derek Acorah was caught out by "Kreed Kafer" an anagram of "Derek Faker" by the show. They effectively threw him under the bus, their live shows were notorious for having feintings and things happen just before the ad breaks.

We've never had more access to phones and video recording. It's no coincidence that ghost and UFO sightings have dropped off a cliff in the last 20 years.

Or why there's never any haunting where the reports are "he was wearing a Celtics basketball top and Nike Air Max".

Didn't those Ghost Adventures crew film an couple of episodes in Ireland
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4431434/

They spent a couple of night at the cheery loftus hall, and the hellfire club.
One the lads ended up crying on the floor.

A basic dictaphone playback might suffice for anyone making a visit,
although they have all sorts of fancy technical environmental equipment.

The three pilots reports to the IAA and the drivers dashcam (500km away) of last weeks sighting over Ireland, came back as 'unexplained'. Guess that makes it's a U-FO of sorts. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057928362

I've legit heard a ghost tbh but that was 20 years ago now, there's so much we don't know. We're pretty simple creatures. I think as kids we're more clued in to whatever that world is, I don't know why, maybe cynicism and rationality hasn't taken over but in my case the ghost called out to me(and my sister), I know for a fact that the voice was travelling from an unoccupied room. Still, for some reason I say I don't believe in paranormal but I look left every time I pass that room, every time.

    Not at all.

The shows are all real - it's the ghosts that are fake;)

    I'm damned if I know.

I've never understood why someone who has somehow managed to come back from the great beyond would concern themselves with things like moving picture frames or knocking over ornaments!

He used to get possessed quite often, if I remember correctly. Always by scousers, though. No matter where he went, there was always a scouse ghost possessing him.

The way Derek allowed Dick to enter him without any protection is a bad example to be setting.

Why do they never describe seeing a ghost with a Lacoste tracksuit? It's always some creepy woman in a white dress or some lad in an old timer suit.

I saw a documentary (from about 2016) by Irish Ghost Hunters on the telly recently, but it stopped recording a few minutes before the end (WOO!!!*) so I looked for it on YouTube. I don't usually look at this sort of thing so I don't know why I recorded it.

(*The recording stopped because TV3 were off-schedule.)

At least the Irish version doesn't have the ridiculous music you hear on the American equivalents. Here it is:

Chances are all the crews showing up would disturb anything in these places.

The US Ghost Adventures crew have been doing it for years (visited Ire during S15) and have a shed load of tech, all capable of what they call Class-A reponses to direct questions.

LHall or the Hellfire club, probably aren't ideal locations for a spot of weekend camping, wear ear muffs just in case:

    let's not forget psychics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,743 ✭✭✭Wanderer2010

There is no regulation or laws in the paranormal "industry" so I can claim to be a psychic or medium or artistic channeler (anything goes!) and can charge people a fortune to read your palm or cleanse a house etc and nobody can quote a law im breaking. Whether you believe a single word in saying is entirely down to how gullible you are.
I see these teams with their KF meter, EVPs etc and not a shred of it would stand up in court. That KF meter sitting on a chair that flashed lights all of a sudden could prove the existence of an evil spirit standing by it. Or, it could be absolutely nothing but a speck of dust floating in the atmosphere. That EVP that replied in an American Accent "Get out of this house" could be electronic interference with a multitude of nearby devices or satellites bouncing signals off the atmosphere, none of it is real proof of anything.
