Sky Q to Freesat

    Hi my Sky contract is coming to an end and I was looking at Freesat as an option.

    I currently have Sky Q and from my reading the current LNB won’t work with Freesat. Is it a DIY to change the LNB or would I need to get an installer out?

    I presume I can use the same cables?

    Same cables, same dish.

    A 2 output SkyQ LNB will have to be replaced, a 6 output hybrid LNB will be ok. DIY job if you're ok working up a ladder.

    Thanks for the speedy reply. Would there be any fear of pushing the dish off alignment if I was to do it myself?

    Not unless you're VERY rough. AFAIK it is only a simple screw on clamp that holds the LNB. Needless to say you don't lean the ladder on the dish or swing out of it like a monkey as you're working :D

    Lol brilliant thanks for the reply. For some reason I was always under the impression any slight movement could screw up your signal.

    Last question (promise) but would this LNB do me? I’ve a €10 eBay voucher so that would work out nicely.

    I was torn between Virgin’s offer and Freesat and having used both before I couldn’t stand the thought of using the Horizon box again

    Yes, that should be ok for any Sky dish since 2009.

    Hey. I was about to ask the same question. Have elderly neighbours thinking of getting Sky and we would be looking to get a second freesat box sorted for them. Would the Sky engineer do this if the box was in situ and would they not have a spare output on the LNB? from my memory my folks had a 4 output LNB on their installation a couple years ago? Ive not tried Q myself, would the older sky box be better for an elderly person? TIA
