Lake Garda with young children

We are looking at a week's holiday in the Lake Garda area early next June, the kids will be 4 and 1 so pretty young. Have looked at Bella Italia etc but not sure if it's for us, we tend to prefer an apartment in a village / town.

Only trouble is I'm not familiar with the area so wondering which village / town to aim for - would be looking for somewhere that's got a good selection of child-friendly restaurants, well connected (don't fancy renting a car while we're there) but also with enough happening to keep the two entertained.

    Any ideas?

I've been to Lake Garda several times. I stayed in Desenzano as it has great transport connections for travelling around the area, bus, train and ferry all have stops there. I think the only place in the Lake Garda area suitable for children is Bella Italia there are both mobile home and cabin options as far as I know. Lake Grada would generally be considered an adult holiday I think.

Having said that it's a beautiful place with plenty to see but with small kiddies in tow I'm not sure how much travelling you'd want to do?

Lake Garda is great for kids, there's isn't a family unfriendly place in the area around Bella Italia.
Bella Italia is basically in a town, Peschiera del Garda, a nice stroll or cycle along the lake.

You won't need a car at all. If you did want to travel around the bus service is great, but you can rent bikes with kid seats or trailers and explore the lake, it's mostly off road cycle paths.

    Did Bella Italia 2yrs ago
Never bothered with a car, just pre booked a taxi both ways a few months in advance

15min walk into the village of Peschiera with loads of shops/restaurants
Place is perfect for your kids, lake down at the end of the site and water is calm and shallow for a good bit out

Cant go wrong with this place

If you hire a bike/bikes on site, you can get the little baby side cars on them, there is a man made cycle path that goes for km's along the river
