    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new laptop. Ideally i7 chip, min 8gb ram and min 256gb ssd. Max price €1200 give or take.

My old laptop crashed about 2-3 years ago and wasn't in a position to splash the cash so bought a asus i5, 8gb with 1tb hhd and its performance is shocking. It drives me bananas.

I mainly use the laptop for a bit of prpgramming, using intellij/android studio. A bit of messing around using a raspberry pi headless and then the odd design stuff, photoshop and illustrator.

I was looking at the dell inspirons or latitudes.

So just looking for peoples views and experiences with similar or alternative laptops.

Performance and speed are important. Quick boot time and not waiting a day for apps to open or big lags will using multiple apps.

Apple is out of my budget and I am not overly keen on apple products.

Why would we leap to recommending a big heavy gaming laptop?

Not saying this specific one, but something like this would be more ideal.

Or this if you want something smaller and more portable, but still packs plenty power.

I'd say shop around Dell/Amazon for prices considering the whole Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend.

Your current laptop may also be fine, depending on the actual detailed spec, and just in need of an SSD upgrade, some laptops come with painfully slow HDD's these days which makes the whole machine seem slow.

I did think of changing the hhd to an ssd but I hate the keyboard also, its very flimsey! The touchpad also makes a very loud plastic click sound when pressing the touchpad buttons so I am just done with it.

Ye I don't think I will opt for a gamging laptop, to flashy and chunky for my liking as I will never use it for gaming

Nobody was leaping just offering an opinion. Gaming aside the spec is very good for the money.

Just ordered a dell g3 the weekend. 12% off also ends today I think. Got mine but only i5 for 760 with reduction.
