    Hi,
I'm looking for opinions on installing a charging point in my rented accommodation before i buy the car.
I imagine that this will require substantial work on the house itself, right?
Is it too much to hope that the point can be moved if and when I move on, without any damage to the property.

Ok, you don't necessarily need a charge point. Many people get by with a granny cable that you just plug into any socket of your house.

If you do want a charge point, talk to your landlord. They might be completely opposed, they might not. If I were the landlord, I would let you install at your cost (provided it is properly and neatly done), but I would demand you leave it there for me once you leave.

The work required depends on the location of the charger in relation to your consumer unit, if your consumer unit is near an external wall close to where you want to place the charger then its not to bad.
But if your consumer unit is in the middle of the house or apartment then that involves a bit more chasing and drilling which your landlord may not be keen on.
