RTE presenter censored artists because of political views

I knew to never get her started on American politics or gun control!!

Sandy didn’t like to interview people if she didn’t like their politics. As far as she was concerned, she wanted to get people to go buy their new CD or go to their concert, and she couldn’t do that in all conscience if she didn’t respect them.

Why is behaviour like this permitted in RTE. I'm not trying to have a go at this lady who has recently passed, but this is censoring music played on a national radio station based on a presenter's political views. I presume that she had views that correlated to extreme right politics. I'm genuinely baffled as to why RTE would celebrate this type of bias.

Pure conjecture - where on earth does it suggest she was right wing? Anbody who knew her or listened to her shows, knows this was definately not the case.

The point I was trying to make is that it shouldn't be a acceptable for an RTE presenter to censor certain artists because of their political preferences. It doesn't really matter if they are left or right wing. We shouldn't even be aware of what their political opinions are. This type of stuff is poisoning Irish media, and it mainly seems to be coming from the US. The fact that her producer is boasting about it, makes me think that it must be seen as being acceptable behaviour.

Lads, You are confusing news & current affairs with music. Sandy did not
"censor" anything, she had an educated opinion about what music she
liked and who she would like to interview, and that is all. Her producer
is pointing out she was more then a voice linking the tracks, she had
editorial input. If she was mashing a touchscreen, running blocks of
playlist generic country, and shouting out the text number in every
link, she would have never made it as far as she did. She worked for
decades in the music business, and her opinion and credibility was
without question. Artists would talk to her, and only her when
approached for interviews or meetings, and this was the case since the
1980's, and this was not confined to her time in Ireland. She was an
intense music lover, and will be missed.

If anyone thinks there should be no room in specialist music for expert
and informed opinion, they clearly do not understand it's purpose, or
it's target audience. If everything was generic and safe and
predictable, media would be very boring indeed.

Politics regularly tries to hijack trends and patronise passionate
groups, and this thread is just such an attempt. It needs to be reported
    and closed.

    mods?

Typical liberal-run to authority when the prevailing view doesn't suit you.

This person's radio show was one of the better ones. It was one place on RTE free from Louis Walsh and ex boyband singers.

It's not really. I re-read the article it states
but I knew to never get her started on American politics or gun control!!

She's most likely to the left of politics she was interest in homeopathy.

I think the OP is correct her views on music are valid on a music show, but to let her politics influence who she promoted is way off base, it be like if the Dixie Chicks were unable to play just because of their view, she'd have a very small play list in term of country music if she did.

From what I gather, she was anti-'Gilead' politics in America (the likes of the KKK and the Tea Party). If so, I agree with her views 100%. But on a music programme, it should be left out.

Good show ...though why was it just on for a season and not for the entire year?

RTE tend to do this with other music shows, especially at the weekends
