Peugeot 508 SW plugin hybrid

    Hi,

I'm liking to look of the forthcoming peugeot plugin hybrids coming next year.
    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-paris-motor-show/peugeot-announces-508-508-sw-and-3008-plug-hybrids

I'm wondering though, - do manufacturers tend to have teething issues when they first went electric (eg. hyundai, kia etc). PHEV would actually work well for me as I have a short (10-15 minute) daily commute and do a lot of short runarounds, and then a longer run every week or two . Do folks think a first generation PHEV peugeot might be a risky proposition, or do ev/phev tend to be reliable in general?

    Thanks!

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

How long is the longer run? What's your budget?

PHEV is not a huge deal

Plenty coming next year but depends on your budget

Best at the moment is the kia Niro PHEV

Budget would be about 40K +/- 5K. Hopefully there will be something interesting coming up in that price range.

The longer runs could basically be up to 4 hours each way

A very mechanically complex French car. What could possibly go wrong!

That's sorta what I was worried about, - though Peugeot seem to have turned a corner in terms of build quality. I'm not sure how far that would extend to completely uncharted waters for them though.
One possible benefit of PCP actually is for "early adopters". ie. Match PCP to warranty, so dealer takes the risk. ie. You can give the car back after 3 years and warranty if there are reliability problems.

Tiguan PHEV is out next year, could be crazy money

I would expect the PHEV/hybrid market to grow dramtically next year. All vendors should be releasing hybrid models of cars/crossovers.

Peugeot build quality was something you could point out in 80 and maybe 90's....thats not an issue anymore. Ok like every company you could get a lemon but the days of cars falling off the road are long gone

They claim 25 miles of electric-only driving. How realistic is this though?

That is indeed the question. TBH, if I even got that in km it would get me to work and back and maybe another few quick runarounds each day.

I'm down in Cork city which is a pretty compact city, ideal for PHEV in a lot of ways.

No information on the battery size so hard to know

25 miles is 40km. Which seems reasonable if they are putting in a 12kWh battery which most people are doing now. If you think the Outlander gets 30km real World and it is a lot bigger and heavier I would expect 40km would be achievable....but hard to tell till battery details released

    11.8 KWh on the 508/508SW for 40km(supposedly?)
"11.8 kWh battery for over 40 km (25 miles) of WLTP all-electric range (50 km NEDC)"

    13.2 KWh on the 3008 for 50km
"13.2 kWh battery for 50 km (31 miles) of WLTP all-electric range (60 km NEDC)"

Not sure how realistic the above is on a biggish car.

Similar sized battery on the Outlander for 30km real range. So I would say 10km extra on the 508 would be fairly easy as the weight would be a lot less.....also a lot more aerodynamic than a big SUV

Same with the 3008, I think the Niro has 11kWh and it does 50km no problem
