"Premium" Delivery services inferior to An Post

    Hi,

    It's something that always bugged my, but here goes.

    Any time I order from amazon and they use An Post, 99% of the time the item is delivered the day after it arrives in Ireland which is excellent service.

    I have on occasion ordered from other online shops that use DHL/Fedex/UPS etc and they tend to be useless.

    An item arrives in Dublin and sits there for a few days before moving and then finally gets delivered. These premium courier services are nowhere near as good as An Post when it come to speed and efficient delivery in Ireland.

    Is it just me or do others notice this?

    The retailers are likely to be getting a special volume discount. It gives them more latitude to ship/deliver this product, rather than the shipments where full express rates are being charged. These will get the full express treatment. I had a problem with FedEx doing this to me, 3 times in a row I had a delivery date, and on the day, they decided that the delivery wasn't required and put it back a day. I went down to the depot and asked why, and was told that the delivery wasn't expected until the next day. Despite me pointing out that I waited around for it as their website showed the date is was supposed to be delivered, they did it twice again. I got on to the seller on the 3rd one, and returned it to them, explaining why. Next time I asked for an alternative service, and they sent it DHL which was great.
