Intermittent issues - ECars home charger

Have an issue which has started recently with the 3 year old home chargepoint that was fitted by ESB. In the past few weeks, the car has sometimes failed to charge overnight (2015 Nissan Leaf with timer set up). When it happens, the red LED is shown on the chargepoint. The car has been looked at by Nissan and they have found no issue with it.

As anyone had issues like this with their ESB supplied chargepoint? It's the white coloured model with the connection under a flap in the left, if that means anything. I reset the unit yesterday via the domestic consumer unit breaker so not sure if this action alone might resolve it.

Did you get a manual with it? What does it say about the red LED?

Most of these should have some sort of internal RCD or fuse, that may be the problem, any sparks should be able to figure it out.

Can't find the manual for it but red means a fault of some kind. Nothing is tripping in the consumer unit, it's just the chargepoint going into a fault state, resulting in car not charging.

Other than resetting it (which you've already done) there isnt a whole lot else you can do really unless you open it up and take a look.

If you dont feel comfortable doing that you have to get a spark in.

I dont have the same model charge point as you but I recently had an issue with mine leaking water into the unit and it got into the controller and was doing all sorts of strange things but only on the nights it was raining!! It could be something like that or it could be a lose wire or a faulty controller or anything really.

You've done the reset and you've verified the car is OK so time to call a spark.

Is that the one with the flap at a kind of angle and there's a lock on it. It just has a single reset button under the led? If so then ours does that as well. It trips randomly. Ours is probably six years old at this stage. I think it's quite susceptible to cold Temps as it hardly ever happens during more moderate weather

Yeah, that's the model. Funnily enough, there have been some coolish nights of late. I wonder if it is that. I doesn't trip though, just goes into fault mode with the red LED illuminated so the unit is still powered up.

Sorry, yeah that's what i meant. I've taken to just plugging it in around 11.00 with no timer set. That way I can just check by looking out the window if it's still green when going to bed. I can also check on the (BMW) app. Bit of a pain. I should probably just replace it (or get someone to look at it)

I'll get a sparks to take a look at it and go from there. If it's faulty, I may well get a 32 amp model and priority switch.

Does the cable work ok on other CPs? Ruling it out...

Yes, there has been no issues charging elsewhere on SCPs with the same cable. Good thought though :)
