Real car - smaller footprint?

    Evening all

I'm in the market to replace my 2010 Avensis and was set on a 14/15 hybrid. Not ready for EV just yet. Anyway, we happen to be moving house and only private parking really tight from rear lane to garden. I was thinking an Auris was max size-wise to make the tight manoeuvre more practical. I like my car comforts and reasonable performance. Any suggestions for a smaller machine ?. Might one of the 1.0 TSI be as practical as a hybrid and feel like a bigger car ?.

    Thanks,
    K

Is it tight on width or length?

It's both really Colm. Mainly len but reduced either would help. Laneway with 90° reverse into back garden. I plan to get wider gates (steel roller - auto) but still a delicate operation !!. Plus OH not blessed with spacial awareness. I'm right that Auris being replaced with new Corolla Hatch in hybrid ?. Perhaps rules out Auris anyway.
I do plan to cable for EV - future use.
    Thanks, K

    Yaris hybrid?

Was thinking of the CT200 ok - finish looks really good. I'm 6' 3" so was looking at the range up from Yaris size but perhaps the newer Yaris is bigger and better equipped ??. I saw a new HR-V at the airport this evening - nice looking machine and tidy size - but my driving wouldn't suit diesel. Is the Toyota CRV (??) a big unit ?. Looks good.

    Thanks, K

Any reason why not full BEV?

I'm not 100% sure really if I'm honest. Too much ongoing discussion about charging availability and standards, batteries, too many differing views. For a total novice like me - just seems things not settled enough yet. I suppose was the same with flat screen TVs - I bought a monster CRT just as they came in !!. Just not confident enough and I'd like a better range.
I'm looking at a step that direction !!

Electric has a better use case than hybrid. Hybrid effevciencies are grossly over rated and probably only apply to very particular journey types where both petrol engine and battery are utilised as manufacturer intended.

What sort of mileage you doing? Much long distance? I guess you can install a home charger?

Do you have a regular long distance you need to do?

If not limited by height I'd say a crossover.

Same footprint as a hatchback but a bit bigger.
(Not as much bigger as they look though)

    You're looking couple years old?
Ateca 1.0 tsi if you can find one...may need UK

    Smaller again
Don't think the smaller seat or troc was out.
    Pugeot 2008
Toyota chr or Nissan juke if you can look at them

    Thanks all for replies.

I've been checking the Ateca...and that range of SUVs. Also - while not taking me hybrid the i20 - especially the higher spec versions - would seem to offer that bigger car feel equipment-wise while small footprint. Polo no doubt a good car but looks sparse inside.

It's mostly city driving - with monthly motorway trips away. 3 years time I'm convinced EV - thus my hybrid half-step idea. K

I think EV + GoCar might be the future !!

The Renault Zoe, either battery bought or if low mileage then battery rental might be an option....will do over 200km per charge....you would need to ask on electric car forum for exact range

Replying to my own thread here !!! but just been reading the whatcar reviews on the Seat Arona - very positive reviews !. I'm right in thinking as a small SUV it would be the reduced footprint ?.

    Thanks, K

    Well it’s a whole 3cm narrower.

It’s a foot and a half shorter to be fair.

I don’t know that I’d be buying a new car to out in somewhere where parking is really tight either way.

This is a bit different...but it's the smallest car you can currently get (3.7 x 1.7 m) that has good interior space and very decent levels of kit..feels a lot more grown up from the inside than it looks from the outside

This particular one has been for sale for a while and I would say yer man should be ready for a good deal

I've got the 4x4 version of this and changed from a 2010 X-trail...I don't feel short changed by one bit :D (except maybe for missing leather seats, but you get used to that too)

The hrv also comes with a 1.5 petrol unit. They aren't cheap to buy though but they are nice
