Just have a query about Single Parent tax credit

My ex partner and I have 2 children, we do not live together anymore,
She applied for Single Parent tax credit and received it.

both the children spend half the year with myself.
Is it possible for me to claim the credit aswell if she has only one child dependent claimed for on form 12?

ie i have 1 child dependent and she has one

    No, you cannot do that.

Even if you split care of the children between you half and half, only one parent can claim the single carer credit. It doesn't matter how many children she puts down on the form 12 - you get one credit, whether you have one child or ten children. You don't get the credit per child.

You're stretching the truth saying that she has one child dependent and you have one child dependent. That's not true: you both have two child dependents. You didn't each pick a child to rear alone.

You should not go trying to claim the credit twice. It is not due.
