    A Kerry footballer has been convicted of three assaults, two of them on gardaí, after becoming "violent and aggressive" following a day out at a Munster rugby match.

    Judge Waters convicted Mr McCarthy for all three assaults and fined him a total of €1,400.

    Details here;

    Same old story, he was drunk/on drugs so he's not really a bad lad. At least this time there's not a long list of previous convictions.

    he did assault 3 people and bite a policeman

    In mitigation, he hadnt eaten all day

    The court heard that McCarthy had not eaten on the day in question and that he had drank three or four cans of Carlsberg on the bus; five or six brandy and Baileys; and vodka and Red Bull

    His problem is he was just too good at the game.

    A lower echelon player wouldn't get any national coverage for such an incident.

    I know a woman who after a feed of drink went nuts when a guard tried to talk her down from her general aggression and she slapped him across the face. I really know this woman and normally she is a sane sensible non aggressive person. Not saying it's right but drink does seem to drive some people crazy. Btw she wasn't charged at all, he let her off.

    His problem was he couldn't handle his drink and bit a garda after assaulting someone else. Who gives a f*ck if he plays sport in his spare time.

    The risk of this individual to do anything similar again is minimal I suspect.

    Surprised the judge went for such a small fine with the assaults being against Gardai.

    Did I read correctly that the Garda who got bitten was off for two months?? Either yer man nearly chewed his hand off or we're recruiting some seriously soft cops these days.

    Did he bite a policeman or a Garda? If it's a policeman then that's ok.

    Shur didn't he explain to the judge that 'twas jusht a feed of drink he had?
    That's all. A decent GAA Co. footballer ....not a bad bone in his body.

    Jail is only for water charge protest blackguards and their equals.
