Cost of servicing a 181 Mazda 3 at a main dealer?

    Hey all

I bought a 181 Mazda 3 (1.5 petrol) from Joeduffy in January 2018 and have been quoted €245 for the first service. Is this a fair price or does it seem excessive? This is my first 'new' car so I assume I should get it serviced at a Mazda garage to maintain the warranty - it this really necessary?

    Cheers:D

What engine is in the car? And what does the service include?

Thought the first oil change service with a brand new car from Joe Duffy was free ? Or maybe that was years ago...

    1.5 petrol. 15k mileage.

As far as I know - an oil and filter change, a check with diagnostics for faults recorded, an entire visual check and road-test. A main service (dependent on mileage) includes an oil and filter change, plugs (if fitted), air filter, fuel filter.

I was expecting to pay at most €199

Without knowing a breakdown of what is being done for €245 it's near impossible to quantify in threads like these and if servicing is expensive or not. But given it's the first service I'd guess they will just change the oil, oil filter and air filter for that price.

Also you don't have to get a car serviced at a main dealer to maintain the warranty. However and it's a big however, if you go elsewhere then make sure to get an itemized bill/receipts listing all parts and fluids used were per the manufacturers specifications. You will need this in the event you have to make a warranty claim so Joe the mechanic's word who working from his house and who does it for mates rates won't do.

In nearly all cases it's less hassle just to maintain main dealer servicing for the duration of the manufacturer's warranty. Also if that Mazda is diesel I'd certainly be making sure to keep it serviced at a main dealer to ensure the exact and correct grade of oil is used. These engines are very temperamental and don't take well to generic oil.

    It's not cheap for sure.

Thanks for all the feedback, I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet:(

Probably just an oil change, Mazdas are crazy for servicing. My 5 series was €150 for the same service

You'll get it done cheaper than that. My father got his 181 CX5 serviced for €180 with 10,000km on the clock. He has the 2.2L four-wheel drive model too. He told them he got an email offering a service for €169 (which he did...if he had a petrol Mazda2 but it didn't state that in the email). You'll get it cheaper than €245.

€215 for 2.2d oil and filter change a few weeks ago with jdm. Plus the usual visual checks and of course the obligatory bodywork scratches! 😡

I've booked it now, should I call them back and look for a better deal or say it to them on the day I'm dropping it off.

Call Stuarts Mazda on the Greenhills road and tell them you think Joe Duffy are a bit pricey. Is there anything there can do for you?

Then call Joe Duffy to cancel because Stuart's are cheaper and see do they want to keep your business.

Stuart’s offering service for €199 with 0w30 oil
    https://www.stuartsgarages.com/web/mazda-fixed-price-service/

    And MSL are offering €179
    https://www.msl.ie/service/mazda/fixed-price-servicing

€245 is taking the mick for what is a cursory look at the car by an apprentice, plus an oil and filter change.

Paid about €150 for first service on a petrol civic couple of months ago.
Was told that will be the cheapest one I will have !!

No way should the 15k service be that much. I think I paid €120 for my first service on my 2017 1.5 petrol 3. That first service should not be any more than €150. Ring around a few main dealers around the country and you'll see the difference.
