EGR in Octavia

An Octavia is showing a P040300 code, which is the EGR. I understand that main dealers may help with the cost as it's a known problem part but the car hasn't been serviced by the garage bought from (main dealer) since purchase. Is there any chance of them helping out with cost?

What year is the Octavia? If it's had the emissions update i'd definitely chance the dealer first.

It's 2010 and it's had the update. There's nothing to lose by giving them a call I suppose. Just wondering what experiences others might have had.

Had this in mine, changed the EGR and the problem went away, there was a lot of carbon in the intake pipe so I'd only assumed the EGR failed and allowed it to build up and then once the new one was in the carbon burned off.

Was a straightforward swap, flexi pipe bolts underneath it are slightly tricky to get at but not impossible.

Will they replace it when it goes again?

It's fairly cut and dry, on their website it says the EGR is covered.

Thank you! I hadn't seen that.

It must have been serviced with VAG (or VAG-approved) parts and you need to have proof of this.

For the post-fix EGR issue postponement?

See "What are the conditions for the Trust Building Measure" in Toyotafanboi's post (#3, Bullet point 2).
It's even a bit vague about whether only VAG serviced Cars will be considered.

I've never seen anyone turned down on the basis of service history, or lack of. It's money for jam for the workshops so they'll be working with you as much as possible.

Just another quick question about this. I was talking to the main dealer about getting the EGR job on my Octavia done.

The engine light indicating a problem is not on in my car at the moment and when I asked him if the code would be stored by the car, he was not making positive noises. The code hasn't been cleared by a garage. The engine light came on during two long journeys after two hours of driving but I've only driven short distances since and it hasn't re-appeared.

Could anyone tell me please if the code should still be stored by the car? I don't want to go in and have him tell me there's no problem (and charge me). Thanks.

If the light isn't on, it should still be stored as a sporadic fault. Usually they will be looking for a certain regularity to the fault, in that the sporadic events were recent and that there was a number of entries, that would certainly be enough to get you a replacement EGR. One sporadic fault from months ago won't do.

Obviously it's impossible for the fella on the phone to confirm if your car has stored the fault etc, so it's the chance you are taking sending it in there. If you're confident that the EGR is faulty, is send it on in.
