    Hi Guys,

As the title says, wondering what the cheapest / easiest way is to find the previous (UK) reg of an imported car?

Aside, from asking the owner :P _

    Thanks

Is there such a thing as a VIN plate decoder?

p.s. Why not ask the owner?

Wouldn't it be listed in the report from cartell.ie / motorcheck.ie?
[do you know the Irish plate no.?]

It would but I find it a bit of a rip off to spend 25 euro .. when in the uk you can do reports for 2.99

That's why I'm asking what the cheapest option is to find out the UK Reg.

In the UK you can even do a MOT history report for FREE to verify the mileage.

PS. Yes, I do know the current irish reg.

It's written on the log book. Ask the owner would be the cheapest way!
If they wont give the info then you know it's dodgy. Car history checked for free!

It should be in the owners manual in the glovebox if it's been filled in by the original dealership which on imports it normally is.

Ok so what I'm understanding is that, other than obtaining this info from the owner, I'd have to pay 25 euro for a Cartell or 20 for a Motorcheck?

    Good ol' Ireland.

Disappointing considering the cheapest check in the UK is 1.99 and Mot History checks are free.

I know , was just hoping there might be a better way than cartell or motorcheck!

Would be great if they incuded that info as part of their Lowest price check, but 25 euro is excessive in my opinion

It's on the reg cert. too (j.4) but that also requires asking the owner.

you're looking at buying a car for presumably thousands of euro, 25 quid is hardly going to kill you especially if it lets you walk away from a car with more than 25 euro worth of problems.

He might just be nosey and not buying anything!

It's also probable that it's etched on the window glass

Thanks, that’s sound of you but info is no longer needed. Appreciate it though!

It was advertised with KM’s which turned out to actually be Miles

I agree, would spend it if I was ready to purchase but as colm_mcm mentioned, I was being nosey and fancied doing my own checks before taking things further.

See cars here can be very poorly advertised and I like to do as much proactive checking myself. Certain sellers can be like trying to draw blood from a stone and then if you ask for the UK reg they immediately become defensive and sometimes even suspicious of you as a potential buyer

Also, spending 25 for a report on every car you are potentially interested in would certainly add up quickly ;)
