Problem when starting a CASE

I have a CASE 844 which if left idle and not started for a week is very hard start, it will keep turning over but wont start for maybe 5 minutes or so. However if its started every day and runs for 5/10 minutes then it starts very easy the next day

I changed the battery and put in heavy leads changed the filters. I also heat it every time for maybe 1 minute

    What would the problem be?

Try disconnecting the battery lead. Could be losing current somewhere and draining the battery. If it starts ok after doing this fit a dead man switch somewhere near the battery.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

is she smoking as shes turning.maybe theres a blockage or shes leaking diesel back through the lift pump

Prime the diesel with the hand primer before you start it. I bet it's letting diesel back.

I do prime it and it still turns over after priming.

There would be a bit of smoke when engine is turning.
There is only a problem when it's not started for a week. If started every day there is no problem

Get a non return valve for the fuel feed line.

Do you know is it a Bosch pump on it? Some of them have a "overfuel" to aid in starting rather than heater plugs. You pull the stopper out half way, start it and then push the stopper back in.

Get a heavy duty starter and problem solved. Older Case engines are well known for being hard to start.

Get a high speed starter and none return valve.

No when the stopper is out it doesn't seem to start, it just turns over

Dont pull stopper out all the way. Next time its running, pull stopper out slowly and note when engine is starting to labour. When starting next time from cold, pull stopper to this point. When turning over push in.

that doesn't work - the engine cuts out very quickly, it won't "half run"

As a matter of interest have you tried using a squirt of easy start when turning over the engine to see if it kicks into life?

As far as I know prolonged use is bad but for a one off I doubt it would be a problem. Sometimes I have to use it on the 50b on a very cold morning. The heater plugs are working but it needs a little help every now and then.
