I bought anti tip TV straps as per the pic as my infant is getting very mobile. I'm not going to fix them to the wall. My TV stand has a very narrow chip board where it will go on (see pic).

What screw or otherwise should I use?

I would use nuts, bolts and washers. The back of the stand would want to be pretty secure too.

Is there a chance the tv could fall down the back of the unit? Legs look very close to the back, plus the straps won’t stop it falling the other way.

Washers which are bigger than the holes and use them on the inside, so spread the load a bit more?

Or a batten on the inside?

TV's was angled so wouldn't be that close to the back edge.

You could get a length of timber - longer than the hole opening at the back.
Put it inside the unit and secure the strap to it...with screws or wire.....so that when the strap is attached the batten cannot come out through the hole opening.

The problem is, as others have already pointed out, a child can push the TV backwards allowing it to fall or smash off the wall.

I had a very similar TV and stand set up.

What I did was drill a hole through each of the back legs of the tv stand and through the top of the unit.
When secured to the top of the unit with bolts, nuts and washers it will not move...cannot be seen by TV viewers either...plus cost nothing.
