Amazon refuse to refund item

    Hi there,

I purchased a pair of headphones from Amazon, decided to return them and contacted live-chat - all good, got the label and posted it back (postage was paid too).

Cut to a few weeks later and I didn't get any notification of refund. Amazon said that they haven't received the item yet and asked for a proof of sending. They will not refund the item otherwise.

I never got this and I have never got this in the past with sending returns back to Amazon in the past.

What should I do this instance? Normally I wouldn't worry but it was an expensive pair of headphones in this instance.

    Would appreciate any guidance!

An post should have scanned the label and given you a receipt.

Highly unusual that this wouldn't happen.

    Must be my post-office then!

was there any sort of tracker with amazon label ?

Thou that said whenever ive returned stuff specially anything over 100, id paid for postage to get receipt. As in this case if they say they dont have it they prob dont, and if label was free its like catch 22. Thou i still wouldn't give up processing might take 2-3 weeks, depending how busy they are and given time of year it might still show up.

So only advice look if they can do track from their end, and keep you updated. They do brush off sometimes cheap stuff, but expensive items different story.

    What does the tracking say?

Did you pop it in the bag yourself or did it go behind the counter?

Was the postage paid by Amazon? Sometimes that is only valid for the uk. Maybe contact the sorting office in Portlaoise to see if it is there?

Did you put the slip with your details in the package? Might be worth contacting amazon and seeing if they received an package without a slip around the date you posted.

Might be worth contacting your local sorting office.

    Been in same boat.

There's an an post tracking number on the label they give you, you should still be able to get the same label off Amazon under returning the order.

If you go to the order on the Amazon site, you should still see the return label with the tracking code. Is it an AnPost pre-paid label?

When you handed it in, it should have been scanned then and there and a receipt issued.

I returned a faulty Firestick a few weeks ago, and they were very Arsey about refunding it. It wasn’t enough that I had returned it with An Post with one of their labels, they would only refund when they had received it.

Explain nicely again and ask to do an affidavit that you returned it. I have heard they have a process for that.

In other news In merika the refund hits your account as soon as the parcel office receives and weighs your return...if weight matches, amz process the refund.

That's happens on occasion in Ireland as well. I've had refunds 20 minutes after dropping to An Post but hadn't happened in a while.

Have had no problem with Amazon returns, I have sent 2 parcels back to them lately. I got a certificate of postage on both occasions so I can tell Amazon got it.
The postage is paid for by the pre-generated label, and you put the other part of the label in the box I assume?

The returns labels always have tracking numbers on them. This would have been scanned in the post office when you bright it in, so that should show on the tracking site. This is your proof that you did send it back. If it's gone missing, then that's Amazon's issue.

You can view the return label any time in your account.

If you are having issues with Amazon Customer Services (which are generally good) email these addresses for help:

    Jeff@amazon.com

    ecr-replies@amazon.com

    pressoffice@amazon.co.uk

I had an issue recently and someone from here (Ireland) rang me to sort it out. It wasn’t someone from India which surprised me.

If you do an Amazon live phone call you'll find their outsourced Filipinos very helpful on the phone.

    Similar issue recently.

I got a pair of headphones which were faulty
They sent a replacement which were fine

I sent back the faulty pair using the anpost label the provided but then I saw I was charged for them again, I asked Amazon and they said I was charged for the replacement as they never received the faulty pair back.

Even after I supplied them the tracking number which showed it was delivered and proof of postage they were a bit difficult. Eventually I got the money back but had to sign something which said If I'm lying I'd be subject to a lawsuit or something like that.

How could they ever prove that you are lying unless they requested your house to be searched and found them :D

I dunno but long before I got the refund, I saw a pair of the headphones show up in amazons warehouse deals which perfectly matched the description of the ones I returned (They weren't faulty but had some damage to the headband)

Honestly I have never had a single issue with amazon support - I find them probably the best company to deal with either online or offline when you have an issue. I'm not disputing the situation the OP found themselves in, but I suspect this is relatively uncommon. I've returned a few items to them and never had a single issue.

My experience sending multiple things back for various reasons are amazon are the best company to deal with.

Free returns. Printed ship label and drop off to an post. Sorted.

When they get the item (not completely unreasonable either btw given the fraud they must deal with) they refund me.

OP this thread reads like you were expecting a refund when you "confirmed" you sent the item. I've never used an online company that refunded you before the item is returned (thought fit bit used to get you to destroy the item and send them a video lol)

TBH, I would expect to be refunded when they are confirmed in the possession of Their nominated carrier. If they don’t successfully deliver them back, is it your fault? No, it’s An Post that Amazon would have an issue with.

How are they confirmed in the possession of An Post though? Tracking only shows that the label has been scanned. Could easily pop the label on an empty box then..

Same way as you could say the delivery is received but the box is empty. If it’s received and signed for by Amazon, there’s nothing to say that they will open it there and then. I’d say that’s why they are quicker to refund and to tell you to keep it.

Do the returns stay in portlaoise for a while

I've an Amazon return sent 10 days ago, tracking shows it still in portlaoise

From what I've seen, they tend to sit in Portlaoise for about a week. Probably waiting to fill up a pallet\ which eventually gets shipped to Amazon's returns processing centre in Scotland.

The longest I've waited for a return via Portlaoise is about 3 weeks which is IIRC was a January (busy time of year for returns I'd say)
