We are getting the copper cylinder replaced with a 36" high one (x 18" ?).
It will have a closed/indirect coil that will be heated from a boiler grate.

    Q. What length immersion element would go in to that cylinder ?
    My other half reckons 27".

The only reason I ask is that we got stuck years ago with a short immersion element and I just want to see it done right. Thanks.

You could also install a dual immersion, the shorter element, ~ 11 ins will only heat about 30 Litres but is handy in the summer but will require the appropriate wiring with a sink/bath changeover switch.
