getting off Emergency Tax

I am new to Ireland, just started a job here, and am on Emergency Tax (I understand this is a temporary thing where your new employer maybe doesn't have info from your previous employer to judge your correct tax rate, so temporarily you go on Emergency Tax, at a higher rate).

I doubt I'll owe any or very very little tax in Ireland or elsewhere in 2018, as I was unemployed the whole year until now, and it's already mid-November. I know I'll get a refund if I overpay, but would prefer to have the extra money in my pay between now and Xmas/New Years, rather than wait until 2019 for a tax refund.

Can anyone tell me what to do to get off Emergency Tax? I know I need to contact my HR dept., but also supply a 'tax credit' certificate or a statement (a p45 or something-- maybe? that's a statement from a previous employer in Ireland, I guess?)....I don't have those things.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice or can point me to a helpful website...thanks in advance!

Contact HR or payroll and see what details they need.

Also you can register online for PAYE.

Go on there and add your current employer as your employer, you will need their business number to do this.
That kicks things off on revenue side to get it sorted.

I’ve noticed it’s quite slow at the moment and last two folk we took on it was maybe 6-8 weeks before it was sorted. Plus most government departments don’t make changes from maybe mid December onwards, this could thwart you.

set up an account with revenue on myaccount
    top right here
    https://www.revenue.ie/en/Home.aspx

get your employers tax ref number from your payslip, post your employment details and then claim whatever tax credits you are entitled to.

Its not a P45, you only get that when you leave a job.

Since you weren't working in Ireland til now, you don't have and don't need a P45. Register the employment on myaccount as advised above. You'll be issues a cumulative cert with full credits.
