Buying a used car- should I go up North?

    Hi any advice appreciated on this. Trading up to a petrol 2014-16 year average size car. Prob toyota corolla/ Auris. Looking to spend no more than 14-15k.
    Own car not worth much on trade in (06 focus - will need timing belt soon) No mechanic experience so will only buy thru trade. Is it worth travelling north? Much of a saving? Lot of hassle with vrt? Anything else I need to consider?

    Try selling current car on Done Deal as you'll get nothing for it, especially up North.
    You might find better spec car there for same budget, check the vrt cost https://www.motorcheck.ie/blog/vrt-calculator/ and get your total cost.

    Exchange rate is pretty good for us right now. Seems to be straightforward enough process.

    Had one offer me half of what the going rate on done deal. So they will just don't expect a good price

    It only costs £55 to rereg a car in the north so I’d say most dealers would be willing to take a southern reg if they were getting a sale. A kmh Speedo might be the only concern.

    They won't register them up North, they will only take them as trade-ins if they have someone down South lined up to buy them.

    Fair enough. I have a 07 525i that is pretty much worthless as a trade in down here given the tax so I was hoping I might get more for it up there.

    I'll chance it anyway but I won't hold out much hope
