Pain After Root Canal

    Hi all.

Many years ago, I had deep filling done to fill a cavity in the side of the very back molar on the top left of my mouth.

This summer I was at the dentist and I mentioned that the gap between this tooth and the next one is causing food to get caught all the time. As a result, I have to floss several times per day. He said he could fix it with some filling compound and he proceeded to do this and off I went.

Unfortunately, over the following days I was in a great deal of pain. I went back and he said I need a root canal treatment. I agreed and this was done over 3 visits, the last one was just last week. Between each treatment, I had no pain whatsoever. All that remains is to get the final cap done, i.e. no need for a crown.

Since Tuesday, the pain has gradually got worse and worse and today I can't even eat with the pain. No sensitivity to hot or cold but severe pain if the tooth was to bite on anything of make contact with the tooth below.

Any idea what the problem is? Does this mean I'll have to get the tooth pulled after all?

Either the filling is too high in the bite or you have a cracked tooth or the root canal has not worked out and there is some residual infection..

    Get it looked at again....

Thanks for the reply. It's so frustrating given the amount of money I've already spent.

When your dealing with biology there are no guarantees, its all repair work. It might be alright, who knows.

Ah I know. After the first two visits I hadn't even a tiny bit of pain at all. I thought I was home and dry.

For the last visit, I had a head cold. I called the dentist the morning of the appointment and he said it didn't matter. I wonder if some bugs got into my tooth and is causing a problem.
