Thermostat placement

Hoping for a bit of advice on the best room to position a thermostat. We currently have a timer for our gas central heating but no stat and no TRVs on rads.
We are having hesting controls installed- trvs on rads and nest 3rd generation stat. Also having a new hot water tank and two zones set up - one for hot water and another for rads. Im wondering where the best room to ask the installers to put the thermostat would be? Its a 3 bed semi. I read its best to place it in the room you use the most which would be the living room. However we have had a stove installed there recently so im concerned that will throw off the system. On the other hand we only light the stove in the evening for a few hours at 7 or 8pm and not every night either so maybe it's not such a big deal. Hallway is another option but then dont really need hall to be well heated. Alternatively there is the dining room which opens to the living room by double doors which are generelly part open. Any advice much appreciated.

Can be a bit of an art form sometimes.

I'd lean towards a part of the house that doesn't get overly warm or cold

    Is it a wireless stat?

If it is try it in a few places and see what suits

or look at something like Tado and you can get smart TRV's with stats and do logical zoning rather than a central stat that way rooms will call for heat in only the room and time it's required

    Cheers Limnam,

No they aren't wireless to the best of my knowledge. Cheers for the tip re Tado but we have agreed a quote now for the nest and all the rest and we're just gonna roll with it.

I know some people place them in the hall despite it being generally a bit cooler there. I suppose as long as it's stable there , it would work well. set it in the hall to a temp that heats your living room how you like it. So if you find heating the hall to 18 degrees get's your living room to a temp that's just right then let the TRV take control of the rad when the fire is on in the living room.

Either that or go with the living room and feck it if it knowcs off the central heating on the other rads at 7.30 or 8 at night as there's prob enough heat in the house anyhow..and sure a fair bit of heat will prob rise up to the bedrooms in any case

    I dunno..first world problems what!

Scrap that, did a bit of research and they are wireless. I thought we would be able to get them to put it wherever we like but it looks like you need to plug it it on a stand unless you are replacing a thermostat ( we don't have one).

So it may be that the best thing to do is have it in the living room and if we light a fire, we can plug it in another room if needs be

That'll drive ye mad after awhile i'd say or you'll forget to move it etc

Just try it in a few spots and see which one works best
