Tank bag/backpack suggestions

    Hi all

I'm looking for suggestions for a decent size tank bag which can also been worn as a backpack. I'm not looking for anything massive but something that can hold 2-3 litres of water, maybe a small lunchbox of food, my wallet, a few other bits and bobs.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a tank bag that's big enough but not too big and one that's waterproof?
Not too fussed about the price as I want something that will last. I ride all year round so would prefer something hardy. I'd also prefer one that doesn't need a whole adapter system as well. I know the negatives to a magnet tank bag, potential for tank scratches but I'm not going to exclude magnet systems.

I was looking at this https://www.fc-moto.de/en/Modeka-Travelstar-Tank-Bag or https://www.fc-moto.de/en/Bagster-Motion or https://www.fc-moto.de/en/Shad-SW22-Backpack.
All different brands, does anyone have any experience with any of these brands? Or, does anyone have a tank bag that they'd recommend to me?

    Thanks in advance.

Forget the tank bag, between adaptors and the inevitability of scratching the tank.

Kreiga tail pack is the business.

I have the US30 for about 4 years, still perfect.

    +1 on this actually.

Colleague of mine at work has one and let me borrow it for a few days while I was off up the coast on a mini-tour instead of the standard top-box. Could fit about the same amount of stuff in, but much easier to maintain + I could use my regular backpack too.

Just out of interest, do you recall how much you paid for yours? I know you bought it 4 years ago, but even ball park. I'm probably going to buy during the black Friday sales, even if I got 10% off, I'd be happy.

Is it a steel tank, will it take a magnetic bag?

I have the us30 and only use it for trips to be honest, I don't find it that convenient. However I use the Oxford m2r for all my crap, wallet, phone etc. And use it daily, it's excellent and having damaged it recently I found it difficult to live without while I waited on a replacement to arrive. There are larger versions available which i imagine would suit you.

Don't think that would take all the lunch and drinks and stuff the op wants. A tailbag would be more appropriate for the size

Hence why I suggested he get a larger version :-)

For a tank bag I use a kriega us 10 with the tank converter

Kriega are great, I have a R30 backpack well over 5 years now and no issues at all with it. Never let a drop of water in to the main part of bag. Outer pockets do not have protective layer but keep stuff dry for a normal commute to work

    Apologies for thread resurrection.

I'm looking at getting a highish capacity (25L give or take) tank bag.

Seen a decent one today in Lee Honda. A Givi one at around €120. It had the entry point at front for charging cable. Which I need. NIce clear pocket at top for sat-nav/phone etc

However I'd like one that can be used as a backpack too.

Most of the Givis have the tank lock system. Can these be used for backpacks also?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers lads.

Kriega all the way....they are very expensive but I dont mind paying for it as they are one of only a handful of brands that are so worth the money. I have about 5 or 6 items from them.

As for tank bags, not all of them are bad and scratch the tanks it really depends on the one you get. I have the SW MOTEC and its brilliant, its sits on the fuel cap away from the bodywork and is expandable to 9L but sits at 5 and I would no be without it tbh.

They have so many to choose from.

the kriega system lends itself to using them as a backpack / over the shoulder. As said they are really good quality. Never let a drop of wet in and I use them off the bike loads as they're very durable

Givi's tend not to be waterproof in that price range. I have one and use it because it came with the bike but had a magnetic oxford one before it that was magnetic, waterproof and cheap, I liked it a lot. Personally I wouldn't use the kriega as a tank bag, its more suited to a tail pack in my opinion but are a very good bag, as a tail pack its a rip off in hindsight and a roll bag and some straps are as good if not better and more versatile (for fitting to different bikes). Maybe consider the oxford options.

Louis have there own branded Rollbags, € 15.00 won't kill you and a set of good straps like ROK straps will do what you need.

Looks like a good bag. I know you said you wanted 20 litres but that is a lot for a tank bag. You know your usage best though.

I picked this up before my tour last week:

    https://a.aliexpress.com/_d8ZOlNU

I doubt it'll last a long time, but so far it's been excellent. Superb storage too.
