Downloading BBC radio progs via iPlayer

If I find a radio program in BBC iPlayer (on my iPhone) and click Download it asks me which file size I’d like.

    Fine.

But, it then begins to play the program in real-time.

What I want to be able to do is download a program for listening to offline - e.g. on a flight.

    Can I do this?

    Thanks.

    D.

I've downloaded programs off the iPlayer without any trickery but not on an iPhone. Maybe you might look into downloading them on a computer before you go and them pop them onto your phone?

The other option is to ignore iplayer app and use a podcast app. Most bbc shows podcast the content (although not music), is there a program in particular you are looking for?

    This

I use the pocketcast app and listen to BBC radio all the time. Download them also. It's super easy to use

Just download the podcast to your phone/mp3 player

Is there a legitimate way of downloading/streaming the recent Louis Theroux documentary outside the UK?

Also, why does the bbc player get me to register bedore telling me I can't use it? That's just teasing.

    Thanks for the replies.

The program I want is Only Artists; a series in which two artists talk about what they do. It’s brilliant. (Radio 4)

Last Wednesday was Don Paterson and Thomas Adès.

I can listen to it no prob via iPlayer, but it doesn’t appear to be available via podcast. Is this correct?

I’d like to have it for keeps on my phone.

    Thanks.

I've an Android phone and as a test, have just found and downloaded the program on my podcast app. It was easy as pie to find. I use Podcast Addict but I'm sure just about every other podcast app will work as well for you.

Also, I see that if I go to https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08ltbhl/episodes/downloads I can download the program straight into the downloads folder on the phone.

You can download that episode, in fact all of them back to April 2017
You don't need apps or iplayer.

    Ok.

So, I discovered that my iPhone has Apple’s podcast app already installed. Who knew?! 😉

I used it’s search facility and found the Only Artists series and the episode I wanted.

The download icon (cloud with downward arrow) appeared. I clicked on it. The podcast began playing, but it also started downloading.

Does this mean I now have it for listening off-line?

Also, there was the option to subscribe to this series, which I ticked. What happens now?

    Thanks.

    Sorted.

Just discovered that my phone has been downloading all those programmes to the apps library.

    Great!

    Thanks.
